For ultimate versatility in all settings, the Tascam Sonicware 16 is a studio mixer and a live mixer all in one. This 16-channel digital mixer is an innovative and comprehensive workstation that is compact enough to be used in small spaces but extensive enough for professionals to be able to utilise it for all studio and live applications. Tascam have equipped the Sonicware 16 with such an in-depth array of features and functions, arranged and operated in a user-friendly manner, allowing for efficient workflows and dynamic usage ability.
Based on a powerful mix engine and ultra-low latency processing, the Sonicware 16 provides industry leading sound quality. Offering 16 analog inputs, the Sonicview 16's internal architecture consists of 40 mono channels and two stereo channels to mix with, as well as 22 individual mix busses and a master stereo bus.
An intuitive and user-friendly control panel consists of two sets of eight channels, and an extensive range of useful dynamic physical controls and interactive visual displays. Each eight-channel set has its own dedicated seven-inch touchscreen featuring Tascam Visual Interactive Ergonomic Workflow (VIEW). VIEW is a system that allows you to effortlessly conduct tasks on the touchscreens, as well as view channel parameters with three different channel modes.
All three channel modes for the touch screens let you shape your sounds on the fly. Channel strip view presents all eight adjacent channels as virtual channel strips, like the layout of an analog mixer. Module view displays any two parameters for a single channel over both touchscreens, so you can intricately tailor that channel to perfection. Individual view provides a custom combination display of parameters from any single channel or set of channels over the two screens.
Below the Touchscreens are rotary encoders, as well as select, solo and mute buttons for each channel. Each Individual channel has a 10cm motorised fader including the stereo master bus. These faders can be automated with seven custom fader layers. In between the faders and the channel buttons a colour coded LCD display that shows channel name, gain reduction meter and input level of each channel, this functions as a high-tech electronic scribble strip.
A powerful 54-bit field programmable gate array (FGPA) mixing engine at the core of the Sonicware mixer, provides an optimal balance between exceptional audio performance and efficient power consumption, while requiring less capacity than 64-bit processing. Unlike CPU or DSP, FGPA only programs necessary processing operations, and thanks to its high efficiency the FGPA mixing engine can handle larger processing loads while using less circuit space.
With a 42-bit dynamic range, you can expect pristine audio from the quietest to the loudest sounds that you are mixing with, even when using separate channels for signals of different volume. Throughout the entire signal chain, the Sonicview mixer processes audio at 96kHz quality, and it also generates high quality 32-bit/96kHz analog to digital (AD) and 16-bit/96kHz digital to analog (DA) conversion.
Effects processing on the Sonicview employs a powerful 64-bit ARM CPU system chip with a 96kHz sample rate. This provides superior sounding effects, including stereo and plate reverb.
Offering a vast array of inputs for recording and mixing, the Tascam Sonicware 16's analog inputs consist of 16 channels with XLR mic/line inputs and eight channels with both XLR and 6.3mm TRS inputs, giving you maximum channel routing options and removing the need to buy adapters. It also features two stereo left and right RCA inputs and an XLR talkback input. With the USB connector on the back, you can connect to your computer and utilise the built in audio interface for interaction with Digital audio workstations, VSTs and other recording software.
On the back of the mixer are 16 male XLR outputs including a left and right master stereo and XLR monitoring outputs with flexible routing, as well as two Dante connectors with power over ethernet (PoE) capability. Also on the back of the mixer are word clock, footswitch, Ethernet and GPIO connections that broaden the spectrum of audio equipment that can cooperate with the Sonicview.
In addition to the extensive range of analog inputs that the Sonicware has, it also features a USB audio interface that equips you with 32 in-and-out digital channels that can be utilised to record audio to your computer software, play digital files and add effects and plugins to your tracks with up to 96kHz audio quality. You can also record onto an onboard stereo SD recorder or via USB-C port that you can plug flash drives, hard drives, or mobile devices into to record with.
Proprietary Tascam Class 1 HDIA microphone preamps with excellent frequency response, signal-to-noise ratio, distortion ratio, and equivalent input noise, pick up every nuance and detail of your recording. Combined with 32-bit/96kHz AD converters and the powerful 54-bit FGPA mixing engine, you can be sure that the Sonicview 16 will provide a true and clean pickup and recording signal from your analog sources.
Dante is a specialised digital audio delivery system combining hardware, software, and network protocols, to route high quality audio with extremely low latency, and provide the user the ability to control parameters over an extensively connected audio network. This is perfect recording studios, concert halls, clubs, places of worship or any establishment with a demanding audio routing requirement. Dante can also act as a power source for devices such as control panels and smaller processors.
Not only is the Tascam Sonicview equipped with Dante connectivity, but it acts as a Dante domain hub, with a built in 64 in-and-out Dante interface, that supports AES67 mode, SMPTE2110 mode and Dante domain manager. Two Dante ports, enables Dante redundancy. This allows two physically independent Dante networks to run parallel to each other, providing a failsafe backup network in case of cable or hardware malfunction.
Combined with the recording facilities of the Sonicview, its vast Dante capability allows you mix and record live concerts, panel discussions, lectures, and other large events from any location within the network, including a remote studio space.
Alongside its vast range of functions and features, the Sonicview can be equipped with two additional expansion cards and can coordinate with additional Tascam hardware. Pairing the Sonicview with the Tascam SB-16D gives you 16 extra Dante enabled XLR inputs and outputs. Compatible expansion cards include MADI interface cards, an IF-MTR32 32-track recording expansion card, a 16- channel AUES/EBU card, as well as additional Dante and analog GPIO connection cards. You can also attach a shelf to accommodate a tablet or computer and you can shield your mixer from dust with a tailor-made cover.
The Tascam Sonicview 16 is one of the most extensive digital mixers on the market and provides an unbelievable amount of audio . If you want a clean and easy workflow, dynamic and user-friendly controls, outstanding visual information, and ultimate digital, analog, and network connection then this is the mixer for you.
