The thing that sets the SSL 12 apart from conventional audio interfaces is the built-in Legacy 4K enhancement. For years, SSL have been at the forefront of analog electronics and console design, from their EQ 232 and 292 circuits to the punch of the now classic SSL G-series Bus compressor. Utilising years of expertise SSL has incorporated a way to add more life to your raw vocal recordings.
The Legacy 4K enhancement effect is inspired by the sound and character of the SSL 4000 series console. When capturing the sound of a raw microphone recording, sometimes it can sound lifeless and uninspiring. To add a little sparkle to your vocals, you can simply hit the Legacy 4K button and hear the difference immediately. It combines two essential characteristics of the 4000 series console into a single circuit. This two-part process employs a high-frequency EQ boost and subtle harmonic distortion to deliver a fine-tuned, sparkling sound.
Class-leading mic preamps and headphone amplifier
At the heart of the SSL 12 are four class-leading microphone preamps that deliver 32-bit/192kHz audio conversion rates. The result is a pristine sound that captures every nuance from your source audio, no matter if it's vocals or instruments. The interface also uses professional-grade Neutrik connectors and alp pots for the best possible performance. The interface also features two Hi-Z instrument inputs for recording guitars and keyboards.
Monitor your sources on your own or with artists/engineers using the two high-powered headphone outputs. The high-current headphone amps deliver high-end sound straight to your headphones, making it easier than ever to check your levels whilst recording. The Advanced Workflow Technology provides an ergonomic layout with easy to use metering.
Complete with comprehensive SSL production pack
The SSL 12 comes complete with a comprehensive software suite comprised of SSL native plugins, DAWs, samples, loops and virtual instruments from some of the most revered audio specialists. It provides you with an incredible arsenal of tools to create and enhance your music. The VocalStrip plugin features four select vocal processing tools with SSL’s own unique twist You can use this to bring studio-quality vocal processing to your mixes, with informative visual feedback showing you everything you need to see when it comes to your audio signal. The DrumStrip plugin is similar but is designed for use with drum tracks.
Three-month free access is also included for three subscription-based services including SSL Complete, Auto-Tune Unlimited and Arcade. SSL Complete provides access to SSL’s entire plugin suite, spanning everything from emulations of classic gear to cutting-edge effects. Auto-Tune Unlimited is a must-have for any audio engineer or recording artist, allowing you to polish your vocal recording or set the re-tune level to the max to get that classic Auto-Tune sound. Last but not least, the free subscription for Arcade by Output allows you to utilise the cutting-edge plugins that Arcade has to offer including vast vocal libraries, customisable loops, kits and much more.
Loopcloud and SSL have joined together to provide you with a hefty 1.5GB worth of samples. The premium-quality samples and loops cover everything you could need and are organised by genre for quick and easy navigation. Last but not least, Native Instruments have provided Hybrid Keys and Komplete Start. Start your musical journey with a powerful selection of over 2000 sounds, spanning synths, sample instruments, effects and more.
Intuitive control panel with a range of connection options
With its streamlined design and vintage-style aesthetic, the SSL 12 provides an easy-to-use interface designed to improve your workflow. You can also customise your controls using the three user-assignable front panel switches. Equipped with a built-in talkback mic, the SSL 12 allows you to converse with artists whilst you record, allowing you to give feedback without having to constantly go in and out of the vocal booth.
The ADAT input allows you to expand the channel count with up to eight channels of digital audio for added flexibility. Four balanced outputs and a precision Monitor Level control provide an extended dynamic range that allows you to connect multiple monitors to check your mixes between different systems.
SSL 360° software
Bridge the gap between analog and digital with the powerful SSL 360° software. This cross-platforms (Mac/Windows) application acts as the main hub for all your routing and mixing needs. It features advanced integration with SSL plugins via the plugin mixer and can be used for easy headphone routing with the SSL 12. This provides ultra-low latency monitoring – perfect for recording.
