About Universal Audio:
Founded in 1958 by Bill Putnam Sr, the company has been closely involved with recording many of the all-time greats: Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and Nat King Cole, to name just a few. The Universal Audio brand is nowadays synonymous with innovative recording technology and the professional engineer's gold standard, producing both hardware and software used in world class studios to this day.
In 1999 Universal Audio was re-founded by Bill’s sons James Putnam and Bill Putnam Jr with the intention of restoring the once great company to its former glory. They decided to continue their father’s legacy by faithfully reproducing classic analog recording equipment. Crucially though, Bill and James realised that the company had to go beyond simply resurrecting classic hardware from years gone by. With their vision fixed firmly on the future, UA took the decision to start designing new digital recording tools with the sound and spirit of vintage analog technology. Nowadays, UA's designs are far more space efficient and cost-effective (not to mention reliable). At the time though, this decision flew in the face of fierce controversy over Analog Vs Digital audio. Still a hot topic of debate amongst both audio enthusiasts and professionals, UA have done more than any other company to find a solution that keeps the very best of both technologies, without compromising on workflow or quality.
The company is headquartered in Silicon Valley, California – where every bit of analog gear is hand-built one unit at a time. As well as specialising in analog equipment, Universal Audio have pioneered development of UAD Powered Plug-Ins: a library of award-winning, authentic analog emulation plug-ins, exclusive to UA Interface owners. Including officialy-licensed titles from Fender, Manley, Fairchild, Pultec, and more, UA is your gateway to making records the way they were meant to be made. Don't let anyone tell you "They don't make 'em like that anymore!" – the spirit of analog is truly alive and well in Scotts Valley, Ca.
