A spruce-topped hollowbody design gives the AFC125 a bright and resonant tone with complex overtones created by the large internal space. The body has a classic "jazz box" proportion that is ideal for traditional mellow-jazz tones with great clarity and nuance. The 3pc mahogany/maple neck and ebony fingerboard enhances the AFC125's low-end articulation and stability, along with providing a smooth playing-feel for the left hand.
Hollow body guitars originally found popularity in traditional jazz styles, based on the original electric-acoustic guitar design. As pickups were developed over the decades, these guitars developed into genre-spanning instruments and will work equally well in blues, rock, country, pop, funk and soul musical styles. This is a great guitar to give you access to a wide range of genres with a convincing sound and classy aesthetic.
The AFC125 has a contemporary aesthetic based on a traditional "jazz box" guitar; this is created by its matte finish, body and f-hole binding, bound fingerboard and sleek black hardware. The VT14 tailpiece is covered by a special AFC wood cover and complements the swooping lines of the raised black pickguard. This guitar is a modern-take on a classic design and will evoke the look of a guitar from decades-past, while still reminding you it's a modern instrument with its sleek design features.
The Ibanez AFC125 is loaded with two Magic Touch-Mini humbuckers. Not only do these metallic-coloured pickups give the guitar a sleek aesthetic, they also provide a huge range of tonal balance and clarity. They are designed to have a crisp articulation that gives a fast pick-attack for complex single-note melodies. The pickups also provide great clarity across all 6 strings, meaning you'll have a balanced range of frequencies to maintain note separation when playing intricate chord melodies.
The pickups are mounted to the guitar with a "floating" design; this ensures that the top surface of the guitar is free from dampening and can resonant to its full capability for a richer acoustic tone. The pickups are wired with individual volume and tone controls, so you'll be able to fully sculpt your sound for all styles of contemporary jazz playing.
A graduated-thickness mahogany neck (21mm at 1st fret to 24mm at 9th fret) gives a classic feel reminiscent of vintage guitars. The 20 medium frets are mounted on a 305mm radius rosewood fingerboard, which will provide a smooth playing surface for any genre of music. The frets are finished with Ibanez's Artstar Fret Edge Treatment which gives them an incredibly polished surface for a liquid-smooth playing feel. The single cutaway body assists with top-fret access, while the svelte body design (with lighter weight courtesy of the hollow chamber) ensures a comfortable feel whether stood up or sat down.
